Tired of Runaway Bonnets? Discover the Wider Beauty Solution
Share
When I did my first craft market for Wider Beauty about a month, maybe six weeks ago, someone asked me, "Why bonnets?" She said, "You could sell clothes, do alterations, or all these other things since you know how to use a sewing machine. So, why bonnets?"
My response to her was simple: I woke up with a dream one day. Sewing was a skill I learned when I was younger, and I decided to relearn it. I wanted to make something I already used, but the old bonnets I had were too flimsy and impractical. I figured, if this was a problem for me, maybe it was a problem for other people too. So, I decided to make my own, and I haven't looked back since. What I've created is higher quality than what I was buying at beauty supply stores. It's not thin or flimsy, and it doesn't slip off my head while I sleep. It's practical.
In that moment, while explaining to her, I realized that at the end of the day, I never want to create something that won't benefit anyone or have longevity. This is something I wear every single night when I go to bed and sometimes throughout the day when I'm running errands. So, why not create a bonnet? I like making them; it's relaxing, especially for someone like me, who's used to working with their hands.
The Inspiration Behind Wider Beauty
To be honest, I was slightly offended by her question. I don't have a great sense of fashion or a desire to dress up in fancy outfits. My style has always been simple and straightforward, and that's why I didn't want to make clothes. I'm not trying to influence anyone on how to dress. I just want to help people take better care of their hair and show them how small habits can lead to great results and comfort. And bonnets are evergreen—they're not something you throw away after just a few uses. They're special and can easily become a part of your daily routine.
I knew if I was going to create something, it had to add value to people's lives. That's why I made my own solution to a problem I was facing, and now I'm helping others with the same issue. That's my truth.
For anyone who resonates with this story, I feel like creators—people who love to make things with their hands—often get inspiration from a spark, a feeling. And when there isn't always validation from others, it can be discouraging. But that's okay. I may have gone a little deeper than I intended, but being transparent will hopefully help anyone who reads this and understand why I'm doing what I'm doing for myself and for Wider Beauty. I'm tired of runaway bonnets!
